Connection to Icom Hand-held radios

1. Connection without Radio modification

All Icom Hand-helds except AirBand radios are connected as Diagram 1.
This connection require external battery for SRP-1.
** For the Amateur radio, Data line is not available. Do not connect. **

2. Connection with power sauce modification

If you do not mind modifying a radio (it will void manufacturer's warranty), it is good idea to take power sauce from the radio. In this way you do not need to prepare external battery for SRP-1.
External Mic socket (middle pin or ring) is connected to VCC in the radio but to protect from the short circuit, 470 ohm resistor is added in series to VCC. Remove this 470 ohm and replace it to 0 ohm link then you can use it as a power sauce for SRP-1. After this modification, there is NO protection to VCC line, DO not plug or unplug the connector while radio is turned ON.

Above picture shows the main printed circuit board of IC-F4/F3 and 40S. Remove the front cover and locate the internal speaker cable and socket (2 pin connector) near the top part of the board (LCD side). Remove the 470 ohm resistor located just next to the internal speaker connector and replace it to 0 ohm link.
